(More customer reviews)Going into this purchase I knew there were tons of Lowepro cases on the market that were readily available. But I wanted to grab something that was specialized, unique, and generally well-reviewed/received. Kata came to mine and I spent quite a bit of time deciding between the C-Series of bags. I settled on this one because of its long term uses of fitting and storing more items.
The case is lacking several functional pieces to truly bring it to the forefront of quality. First off, the price led me expecting more. The dividers are SMALL - and each are slightly angled in a way that absolutely puzzled me when I took them out for the first time. Putting them back in requires exact replication of the original configuration otherwise you will have small gaps on the bottom. The dividers are also not very tall. They have no flap overs on the top leaving pieces exposed.
The side pocket zippers do not fully close, leaving just a slight amount of the interior showing on the exterior. For a case that is specifically designed to keep the dust and moisture out - this is clearly an area that does not meet expectations.
The bags top zippers are also not easy to open. When they go from the closed position to the open position around the bag, you have to navigate the shoulder straps which actually hinder clean movement around the sides. This was a puzzling design flaw that kind of seemed like an obvious conflict of material placement.
The shoulder strap is awkward and the padding that are attached on the strap are not adjustable. It only fits in the middle of the strap. You can adjust this with lengthening and shortening the adjusters, but that is tedious.
Lastly, the bag that comes with it, to protect sunlight/rain is a hassle to affix. You have to remove both shoulder straps from the connecting plates and then pull and tighten it around the front. Once on the front - it still leaves the back completely exposed. My guess on this design was so that you could still use the belt loop on a person in these elements. I felt like I would break the strap when I was tightening its elastic pull.
Other than the above issues its very, very strong and sturdy. It's not ugly or an eye sore. Aesthetically it looks fine. Functionally, on the outside, I'm sure it performs well. It was some of the minor issues that I really took issue with for such an expensive bag. I expect more dividers from a company such as Kata. I expected the dividers to be accurately cut so extra plastic wasn't hanging off sides to scratch exposed pieces. This bag is LARGE and really sticks out of your side when carrying it. Certain people need this much room, I am not one of them. It is an odd shape too. Not completely square or rectangular. More half of a half pentagon, if there is such a thing.
I am now planning on purchasing a Lowepro bag as I have been able to compare this Kata bag.
