(More customer reviews)This bag holds a ton of stuff! I bought it to replace my Kata R103 which has excellent protection but is not easy to get your stuff in and out of. Nor does it have room for any other small personal items.
The Vanguard Up Rise bags are very convenient when it comes to accessing your gear on the fly. I own this model as well as the sling version.
With all my gear I have never had a need to use the Up-Rise Feature which allows for a few extra inches in storage. It is nice if you need it but when extended the bag loses a bit of its structural integrity. That being said I wouldn't want to carry a bag on my back with any more gear than this can hold without the extension.
I carried my Canon 7D with battery grip (slightly tight to get in and out of the side hatch with the grip but only a minor inconvenience), 70-200 2.8L IS II, 17-40 F4L, 28-75 F2.8, 11-16 F2.8, and two 580EX IIs. I still had the top compartment to hold other non photo items. as well as the very front zip compartment which has quite a bit of space. Carrying any more than the above mentioned items and I'd rather switch to something that rolls.
The Tripod holder is also a nice plus and it hides away when you don't need it.
The laptop sleeve is very secure and can hold a good sized laptop as well.
The rain cover works well. This was my main travel bag when I went to Russia and Kazakhstan. Fits in carry on compartments as well.
