In normal and outdoor lighting conditions, this camcorder comes close to the Flip. In low light, there's a lot to wish for, but who's complaining for this price?
This camera is very handy for on-the-go video, and has yet to fail me. Just be sure to have some spare AAA batteries on you, and you're good to go.
If you're currently stuck choosing between this and a Flip, here are some things to consider:
- The 579V has a 3x digital zoom, while Flips have a 1x digital zoom. Digital zoom degrades quality, but at least you have the option to zoom further with this camera.
- The flip-out, rotating screen is a big plus not found in any of Flip's designs.
- It's worth noting that the Flip does produce slightly better image quality than this camera, however the 579V does not limit you to just 1280x720 (720p) resolution. You also have the option to record in 640x480 (VGA), and 320x240 (QVGA), should you ever feel the need to do so.
- Until recently, Flip cameras only recorded mono sound rather than stereo. This camera records in stereo sound, which is better than the older Flips that are in the same class as this.
- The 579V has a built-in flashlight!
