We didn't have a tripod or any of the other accessories and this provided a very good introduction package. With an 8 gig card and the VR lens' you won't be disappointed with this if you are new to the SLR world. My wife took it to a friends wedding and the photographer joked that she was "competing" with his business. She has not put it down and has taken hundreds of pictures has found the dvd and book very helpful. I don't think you can go wrong with this kit.
